About 2018 Habitat 500

The Habitat 500 is a bicycle ride (not a race) and fundraiser that covers 500 miles over the course of 7 days (an average of 71 miles per day). Each rider raises funds from family, friends, businesses, and church groups and designates the Habitat for Humanity affiliates they wish to support (both locally and around the world). This ride is coordinated and hosted by Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota.

We limit participation to 135 riders. Each rider is required to pay a registration fee and raise a minimum of $1,000.

Each year is a new route; we tour around Minnesota visiting Habitat affiliates, Habitat work sites and Habitat homeowners along the way (in addition to roadside attractions). Habitat affiliates serve as our local hosts for overnight stays.

A key component of the ride is to raise awareness about the need for decent, safe, affordable housing. In this regard, we are in contact with all forms of media to generate coverage and we find the ride is a very attractive story for newspapers, radio, tv, cable, etc. - we bring a lot of excitement wherever we go.

About the Ride

The Habitat 500 Bike Ride is an annual bicycle ride fundraiser that covers 500 miles over seven days. Routes vary, but typically tour around Minnesota visiting Habitat affiliates, worksites, and homeowners. Riders raise funds and designate the Habitat for Humanity affiliate(s), locally and/or globally, he or she wishes to support. Over the past five years, funds raised have averaged over $300,000 each year.

How Your Support Helps

Every year in Minnesota over 30,000 individuals contribute their time, effort, and skills to building or repairing over 330 Habitat homes.

In 2017, we broke ground on the 2,500th new Habitat home to be built in Minnesota.
